I do find many things about the religious influence in the USA fascinating and also rather scary; not least because I am aware that these things affect the lives of millions.

There's a story on slactivist that gives us information as to when the whole 'the bible says that life begins at conception' thing but I must admit outside of 'because they want to think that' I'm still at a loss as to exactly how that logical leap was made.

I was under the impression that the whole freedom of religion thing was supposed to mean that everyone was free from having someone tell you how to behave on religious grounds but there you go.

So...

... I pretty much just post on www.thinkingupblognamesishard.tumblr.com now.

Yeah, like all the cool kids, or something.

IMDB

I like the internet movie database for all of those "where've I seen them before?" moments that occur which, pre-internet days, used to take me a long time to resolve. With all the free time I now have due to that being freed up I stare at a Tumblr dashboard for a long time instead so it's almost bordering on a pyrrhic victory but whatever.

Anyhoo, the point is that IMDB is a rather handy repository of knowledge about people who make films and television programs and whatnot and I like that it can tell me stuff like... uh... OK, I can't remember the kind of stuff that I look for on it because once I've found something I forget about it, that's the point of looking on there, so those things don't niggle.

The subsequent point is that they are very thorough in ensuring that they pass on relevant information like Uggie, the dog, is a dog.

I get that there's probably not a lot of trivia that can be written about a dog, Uggie's hobbies include playing fetch and licking his own crotch, that kind of thing, but I think that we can probably manage without that level of padding.

Ray Charles?

This is not a post about Ray Charles but rather a post about a song called Ray Charles by Chiddy Bang.

The song itself is rather catchy but that is not what I'm writing about, oh no, not that. What I'm writing about is the lyrical content. You see, the song Ray Charles has, actually, you know what? I'll put the song here and then I'll talk about it. You may well get ahead of me on this one.

Did you get that? Maybe? Obviously I can't write this with each possibility covered so I'm going to go with that you didn't get it, sorry if you did.

The song contains such gems as "Ray Charles, boy open your eyes" and someone being "too blind to see it". Of course it also mentions the singer wearing dark glasses and not knowing where they are when they're on his face but whatever, the point is the references to blindness. Is it just me or is it a bit unpleasant? I mean, I wouldn't write a collection of children's stories called "Stevie Wonder's Rubbish At Playing Catch and other stories" and expect people to like it.

It seems in poor taste is what I'm saying here.

Maybe Chiddy Bang will regale us with further stories where they talk about wanting a lazy day and call it Ironside. They can talk about how carrying something caused them a twinge in the back that felt like taking a bullet to the spine or something.

I've just been reminded of someting

The other week when I was very tired I tried to get in through my front door with my magnetic swipe card from work, had to look at it for a couple of seconds while I was trying to work out why the sensor hadn't beeped, and then spent a couple of minutes being too unco-ordinated (fuck you spell check; I like that hyphen and you're not taking it away from me) to use my keys.

My opportunities for nostalgia in a few years time are going to be rather disappointing it has to be said.

I've been looking around the internet this evening...

... as is my wont and I noticed some pictures of Carol Kane.

I was reminded about how much of a crush I had on Carol Kane when I was younger. Apparently I still have a crush on Carol Kane.

Well OK then.

When gimps have kids

I'd never really thought about what would happen if a couple of gimps chose to settle down together to start a gimp family but I guess that's why (oh and there are a lot of other reasons too by the way) I'm not in charge of Gimp Suits For Kids or Morph Kids or what-the-fuck-ever.

The family that gimps together stays together, I guess.

Daddy Gimp: Bring out the kids.
Mummy Gimp: Kids're sleepin'.
Daddy Gimp: Well go wake them up then.

There's the original site as well but I don't really want to look at that either.

Not that there's anything wrong with being a gimp. I'm just bored.
